As details continued to emerge about the mass shooting on Oct. 1 during the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas strip, country music fans’ minds went straight to the well-being of Jason Aldean, who was onstage when the shooting occurred.

And they thanked God when word came down that he was safe.

“Tonight has been beyond horrific,” Jason wrote on his Instagram page in the early morning hours of Oct. 2. “I still don’t know what to say, but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate”

Jason was playing the country music festival that takes place near the Mandalay Bay resort. In video of the event, he appears confused for a moment as the gunfire erupts as he’s singing “When She Says Baby.” He then abruptly ends the performance as the stage lights go off. Video shows him running offstage.

Other country artists that played the festival earlier in the night included Kane Brown, Big & Rich and Jake Owen. Police have confirmed that at least 58 people are dead and 515 more are injured.
