Here’s your first listen to the Toby Keith song that sounds like absolutely nothing he has done before YouTube Screenshot

Could it be that Toby Keith is going to go from cowboy to beach boy?

Nah, we doubt it.

But there is certainly no doubt that the country powerhouse is sounding as relaxed as ever with the debut of his new song “Rum is the Reason,” which he surprised fans with during a recent performance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

Conjuring the island-feeling tunes from music greats such as Kenny Chesney and Jimmy Buffett, Keith seemed to be in a vacation state of mind with the song, which will be featured on his upcoming album “35 MPH Town,” scheduled for release on October 9.

A good friend of Colbert, Keith served as the first country artist to appear on the late night talk show, and even gave the thrilled host one of his gorgeous Takamine guitars.

“Oh yeah!” Colbert said during the telecast. “Now I just have to learn a second chord.”

Colbert was also on hand earlier this year at Keith’s induction into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

“(Toby) was leaving out the stage door and I was going to the rewrite room,” Colbert said during his speech about the time him and Keith first met. “This was very early on in my show and he didn’t know what he was in for, I guess. He turned around to me and he said, ‘Hey man, you do a great job — whatever the fu*^ it is you do.'”

Classic.
