When Miranda Lambert speaks, millions of people listen. She’s established a reputation for being completely honest about her life in her music, but there are some things Miranda just won’t sing about.
One of the topics that’s off-limits for Miranda is politics. Unlike her country heroes — including Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard — did back in the day, Miranda chooses not to take on political issues in her music.
She tells “Billboard,” “I am a 100 percent believer in not ever using the platform that I’ve built for anything other than music, because music to me is an escape from your own reality. I don’t want to go to a show and hear somebody preach about their opinions.”
There is also quite a lot to lose should an artist of Miranda’s stature suddenly alienate half her audience by taking sides in politics.
“It’s so divided [in politics], you can’t win anyway — and what are you winning?,” Miranda adds. “For someone to agree with you, and now you’ve spoken your piece and pissed off many other people, just for one person to go, ‘She’s right’? It doesn’t do any good.”
