I’m fairly sure I fell deep in love with American Idol hopeful Zach Johnson in the first 10 seconds of his tryout. And you will too…I assure you. Here are a few reasons for you to ponder:
- He sang a Keith Whitley song. Enough said.
- He is not only a fan of Garth Brooks, but sounds eerily similar to Garth Brooks.
- He wore a sweatshirt, faded jeans and didn’t shave. My kind of guy.
- He smiles…a lot.
- Two weeks after his American Idol tryout, he got up on stage with American Idol judge Keith Urban at a tour stop in South Dakota…and killed it.
Of course, it wasn’t long before fellow judge Harry Connick, Jr. spoke up and put a bit of a damper on things.
“Dude, if you don’t talk with a country accent, don’t sing with a country accent because that tells me you are not who you really are,” Connick said, as the camera panned over to Urban giving his fellow judge a bit of a glare.
Luckily for Johnson, and the future of his fan club which I intend to be president of, American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez encouraged Johnson to sing another song that showed a bit more of his vocal range.
Johnson proceeded to sing “Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan and that coveted golden ticket to Hollywood was finally and officially his.
