There were plenty of amazing, wondrous and joyful things that happened in 2017. Unfortunately, though, there were also some devastating tragedies, including back-to-back hurricanes, that can often overshadow all of the good. Country singer-songwriter Josh Abbott had his share of heartbreak and tragedy over the past 12 months, and while he isn’t forgetting those moments, he’s celebrating some pretty amazing gifts that he received, too.
Josh recapped his year on Twitter with an inspiring post and a series of photos, and we can’t help but think that in a lot of ways, so many people can relate.
The Texas star writes, “2017: my dad had a stroke while we were recording our new album. He died [three] weeks later. [Two} months later I gained a daughter. In July I got engaged. In [October} we escaped uninjured from the Vegas shooting. It’s been a year of highs & lows; yet here we come 2018.”
Among the photos are pictures of Josh and fiancée Taylor Parnell’s baby girl, Emery Farryn, who was born in May, including the shot that shows little Emery wearing a onesie with Dad’s proposal to Mom. But there’s also the poignant photo of Josh’s mother sweetly kissing his father’s forehead as he lays in a hospital bed after suffering a fatal stroke.
The Josh Abbott Band also released their fifth studio album, “Until My Voice Wears Out,” and proved that the band of brothers is only getting better.
While Josh and the boys did take a little time off the road to celebrate Christmas with their families and take a long winter’s nap …
… in typical Texas fashion, the Josh Abbott Band isn’t letting any dust settle on their boots. In addition to kicking off the new year at Gilley’s in Durant, Oklahoma, the fellas already have dates on their calendar into April.
Now to our knowledge, neither Josh nor Taylor has spilled the beans on any wedding details, including a date for their nuptials, but we can’t help but think that they might exchange their “I dos” in the coming year, and we can’t wait to see how beautiful Taylor looks as a bride. Plus the thought of how precious this wedding will be with sweet Emery in ruffles and bows is almost too much to bear.
Regardless, we’re wishing all of the fellas in the Josh Abbott Band and their families, and the rest of the country music community, including the amazing fans, a blessed and peaceful 2018 filled with love and kindness–and great new concerts and music from all of your favorite country stars.
