We’ve said it before, and we’ll certainly say it again. Keith Urban and wife Nicole Kidman are known for their sweet, public displays of affection that give us all #relationshipgoals.
They had a few more on the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards red carpet Jan. 7, but inside the venue it was a different story, despite Nicole’s best efforts.
If you tuned into watch the awards show, which aired live on NBC Sunday night, then you likely noticed that Nicole took home the first trophy of the night. She won the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her role as Celeste Wright in HBO’s popular series “Big Little Lies.”
After her name was announced, but prior to heading onstage to collect her trophy, the Hollywood actress got up and turned toward her country singer husband to plant a kiss on his lips. Unfortunately, her gesture didn’t go quite as planned. You see, Keith seemed a tad caught off guard at his wife’s actions, and she ended up having to search for his lips as he was still trying to stand up.
If you didn’t catch the couple’s sweetly funny misstep, well, you can see it again thanks to the internet. Check it out in the Twitter clip below.
Turns out that the power couple’s smooch has been causing quite a stir on social media, as Golden Globes viewers wasted no time in sharing their thoughts on the superstar couple’s awards show interaction.
“I literally never have to see Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman kiss ever again,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Even my FIRST kiss wasn’t as awkward as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s #GoldenGlobes kiss,” another person added. “These two have been married for years—work on it!
“Anyone else see Nicole Kidman kiss her husband when she won. Hella awkward,” another commenter tweeted.
Despite the kiss being called awkward, Nicole ended up sweetly singling out Keith in her heartwarming speech while accepting her award.
“Keith Urban, when my cheek is against yours, everything melts away, and that is love,” she said with tears in her eyes. “It’s true. I love you so much!”
Nicole is certainly no stranger to being called out for her awards show moments. In 2017, she made headlines and became the subject of more Twitter memes for her seal-like clapping at the Academy Awards that resulted from the heavy rings on her hands. But she is quite finished addressing that topic.
“I wish that there was more important things to be concerned about, or that people were focused on more important things than that sort of clapping,” she said on New Year’s Eve, while chatting with Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper via satellite during her hubby’s headlining show in Nashville. “That’s what I would say.”
