They both were going through separate divorces. And soon enough, sparks flew between them on the set of NBC’s “The Voice.”

But, you’d have to be nuts to think that the two of them fell head over heels for one another at first red-chair turn.

In an interview with SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Gwen recalled her heartbreak and the moment when her and Blake’s friendship began to blossom saying, “It was just unbelievable that God put us in a position to have each other at that moment.”

Prior to coming clean to her co-stars about her divorce, the “Misery” singer admitted that she didn’t even plan on starting a new romance — let alone one with Blake. In fact, she says that she was just trying to “not die.”

“I didn’t know what I was going to do. I was in a panic. I was in my hell of my life, and I was going back to ‘The Voice’ with this big, huge secret,” said Gwen. “I didn’t want anyone to know what was going on with me. I didn’t want to rush anything. In my mind, I wanted to try to figure everything out.”

But in a strange twist of fate, those same exact thoughts were running through Blake’s head regarding his own painful divorce. And, it was the “Sangria” singer who spoke up about his situation first. Gwen recalled that Blake told “The Voice” team right before they went into filming the “Blind Auditions” that he needed to get something off of his chest. That’s when he revealed his split with Miranda Lambert.

“I think I might have went white,” said Gwen, “I was in shock, because I felt like he was exposing me. I just couldn’t even wrap my head around it.”

She continued, “It was during that time, [that] he came up to my chair… I never saw him look so upset. So then I was like, ‘I gotta talk to you.'”

“It was an incredible gift to be able to have a friend,” said Gwen.

Had it not been Blake dropping that bombshell we may not have gotten to see the love between Shefani unravel in front of our eyes.
