Darius Rucker shows off his love for country, Charleston and his kids with this amazing gesture

Whether singing the national anthem at a College of Charleston basketball game last year or donating thousands of dollars to a new children’s hospital, Darius Rucker has long been known to follow his heart.

This February, Rucker and his wife donated over $250,000 to help pay for a new children’s hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina. A South Carolina native, Rucker was on hand to present the check at a recent performance at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

“Kids are the future, but it is also they’re the people who are most helpless,” Rucker said. “You try and help them as much as you can.”

Taking time out of his busy schedule is something Rucker prides himself on. The former Hootie and the Blowfish front man is currently preparing for the March 31 release of his latest album “Southern Style” and correlating tour that will kick off May 14 in New Jersey.
