Dan + Shay crash a wedding, and it’s the best thing we’ve seen all day YouTube/DanAndShay

Can we just take a minute to acknowledge how much we love Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, professionally known as Dan + Shay? Honestly, they might be two of the funniest, most talented and generous guys on the planet.

Just listen to this story.

We all fell in love with their No. 1 smash “From the Ground Up,” a true love song for the ages about timeless, everlasting romance. (Sidebar: It was inspired by both of their grandparents’ true love and marriages that each lasted more than 65 years.)

Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or not, this song was so moving it was hard not to get misty while listening or singing along.

So it’s not difficult to imagine that this song became not only a hit on the charts, but at weddings, too. After all, it’s the perfect first dance song, in our humble opinion.

During a recent Nashville event to celebrate the tune going No. 1 the charts, both Dan and Shay revealed that they’re thrilled the song took on such a life of its own and became a part of so many people’s special days.

And one of those special days they actually got to be a part of.

The duo was approached by a couple in Florida whose daughter Madeline, a big Dan + Shay fan, was getting married. Originally the parents thought they would just play a recording of “From The Ground Up” for their daughter’s first dance with her groom, but then they had the idea, “What if Dan + Shay could actually come and sing it?”

Ask and ye shall receive, guys.

Dan + Shay suited up in their best suits and headed to Florida to surprise this sweet couple by singing the tune for their first dance.

“She thought it was going to be just to the album version. Hopefully she wasn’t disappointed,” Dan told reporters during the press portion of the No. 1 party, referring to the bride.

“We were so nervous, though,” he revealed. “We got up and there and were like, ‘Man, I hope her parents had it right and she actually is a big fan of Dan + Shay,’ because if we’d have gotten there and she didn’t like us or she wanted somebody else and they messed it up, it would have been a really awkward couple of hours!”

But it was anything but awkward.

“She started crying. We got the whole thing on film, it was awesome,” Dan continued. “We were supposed to just sing one song, but I think we ended up singing for two hours. It was great!”

And don’t worry—we found the video!

Is this not the sweetest thing ever? Bless their hearts, Dan + Shay were really nervous. They wanted to do a good job for these newlyweds.

See, that’s why we love them. Always putting their fans first.

Dan + Shay are hitting the road with Rascal Flatts this year, and gearing up to release a brand-new album soon as well. They’ve already gifted us with the album’s lead single, “Tequila,” which is proving to be yet another fan favorite in their catalog.

Now, every time we hear “From The Ground Up” at a wedding, we’re gonna be looking for you boys!
