Country superstar Jake Owen just released the anthem of the summer — and it’s perfect

First off, can we finally stop talking about Jake Owen’s hair? Yes, he cut his luscious long locks months ago. Yes, maybe we miss that style a tiny bit. But rest assured, Owen looks and sounds better than ever.

Owen just released his brand new single “Real Life,” much to the delight of his fans looking for a more up-tempo version of his last single “What We Ain’t Got.” On “Real Life,” Owen tells the story of craving a better looking life, but realizing that what we have is just as beautiful.

“Everybody can put themselves in this song in one way or another,” Owen said in a May 26 press release for the song, which was written by hit songwriters Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, Ashley Gorley and Josh Osborne. “And I’ve been dealing with a lot of real life circumstances lately: my father’s sickness, fatherhood, getting married. These are the things I wanted to sing about, and I know my fans can relate. ‘What We Ain’t Got’ is about all the things we don’t have. ‘Real Life’ is about dealing with what you do.”

And while the current lyric video doesn’t show his adorable face, fans will be able to check out Owen doing this song throughout the summer as he opens up for Kenny Chesney on his “2015 The Big Revival Tour.”
