The dad with the golden throat, who gained our attention with his country cover YouTube videos, has a bit of a tear in his voice in a new clip on Facebook. Kris Jones is honoring his late father with one of his most compelling covers to date—Chris Stapleton’s “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore.”

Kris doesn’t mention when he lost his dad in the post, but he does say, “Just remembering a good man! He wasn’t always the best dad in the world, but he was mine! Rest in peace Dad. Love you!”

While the husky-voiced singer doesn’t exclusively perform country music, he caught our attention when he covered another Chris Stapleton classic, “Tennessee Whiskey.” He has definitely shown a penchant for country music. And his young daughter, who is featured as the videographer in many of the clips, has as well. The pair covered Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” earlier this year, with daughter Dayla offering up harmonies.

In less than a year, the Alvarado, Texas, native has become such a sensation he now has a fan club and a loyal Facebook following that exceeds 300,000. And although he hasn’t mentioned moving to Nashville to pursue a music career in earnest, there are plenty of great artists in Texas that make an impressive living performing in that state alone.

Whether Kris lost his dad recently or farther in the past, we send our heartfelt condolences to the family.
