Country music legend Toby Keith reminisces about the only award he ever wanted – and how he got it YouTube Screenshot

Artists these days are so busy trying to get the next song out and the next appearance made and the next headline squashed, that seldom can they take the time to look back and let their heart out.

Leave it to a songwriter to do it.

In this amazing acceptance speech from Toby Keith’s recent induction in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, Keith took some precious time to think back on a career that has taken him from just a guy trying to make it in Nashville to one of the biggest country stars in the world today.

And for a guy who is mostly known as some rough and tough guy, this nine minute speech shows a whole different side to Keith. A sensitive side and a side that looks back at his upbringing as one of the main reasons he is where he is today.

This induction was just one of the many highlights of an exciting year for Keith, who will release his new album “35 mph Town” on October 9.  Luckily for many, Keith has been playing much of his new music as part of his current Toby Keith Good Times & Pick Up Lines Tour, presented by Ford F-Series.
