Jennifer Nettles did an amazing job playing Dolly Parton’s mother in the blockbuster TV movie “Coat of Many Colors” last December. We have to think part of her inspiration for the character came from her own real-life role as mother to her 3-year-old son, Magnus.

We recently caught up with Jennifer, and the conversation quickly turned to her little man.

She tells Rare Country, “He just turned three in December. He’s precious and all boy. He loves dinosaurs and robots and astronauts and animals. Yeah, he’s so funny.”

As a songwriter, Jennifer has always been pretty introspective, but that self-awareness reached a whole new level thanks to Magnus.

“I have described it this way in saying that I was reborn when he was born. Because it was such a transformation for me — that whole process. And continues to be,” Jennifer says. “You know, you get both confronted with the capacity for your love and compassion as much as you get confronted with your edges as well.”

Overall, Jennifer rates motherhood as a “fantastic experience.”

She adds, “I’ll say it’s not boring.”

As for her music career, Jennifer’s new solo album, “Playing with Fire,” is due out May 13 featuring the lead single, “Unlove You.”
