Chris Young was backstage at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when a shooter opened fire on the audience from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. More than 50 people have been killed and 515 injured in what is now the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

At first, Chris just tweeted, “l love you guys.” He gave a more detailed update in the early morning hours. “Spent I don’t know how long on the floor of a trailer behind the stage … know multiple people are dead. Listening to that gunfire,” he chillingly wrote.

He added, “I’m literally shaking still” before asking the question we’re all asking this morning, “Why?”

Chris finally added, “I’m not gonna say anything else other than I’m lucky to be alive. As are many others … and so many people are gone … this is heartbreaking.”

Chris was not on the bill for the country music festival, but he is currently on tour with its Sunday night headliner, Jason Aldean.

The suspect in the shooting, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, was killed by police. Numerous firearms were found in his hotel room at Mandalay Bay.
