Chris Stapleton just went and proved he can sing anything at his first of three sold-out shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Halfway through his two-hour set, Chris brought out his opening act, Maren Morris, for a fired-up cover of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’.” Watch this clip and tell us if Chris didn’t just raise the bar for Petty the next time the rock legend sings this hit.

In addition to the Petty cover, Chris and his band played a ton of tracks from his Grammy and CMA Award-winning album, “Traveller,” including the title track. In this Instagram clip, you can see the audience just takes over singing of the chorus.

The crowd just took over singing Traveller at the @castapleton show!

Several times during the show, the audience just stood and kept applauding Chris for several minutes to congratulate him on all of his well-deserved success.

And then the crowd just kept going wild for @castapleton !

Coming off his two Grammy Award wins earlier in the week, Chris told the crowd headlining the Ryman, also known as the Mother Church of Country Music, was a big honor as well.

He said, “I’ve had a lot of dreams come true, but tonight is a big one. So, thank you.”

The show also included a two-song reunion with Chris’ old band, The Steeldrivers, who won their first Grammy Award earlier this week, too.
