Ever since Chris Stapleton stole the show at last year’s CMA Awards, we’ve been clamoring to get our hands on any song he sings. Country star Jake Owen feels the same way, which is why he recruited Chris to sing with him on a brand-new song, “If He Ain’t Gonna Love You.”
Chris also wrote the song, and Jake says adding Chris’ voice to any song makes it that much better.
Jake tells Rare Country you put Chris on a song “when you just want to add another level is really what it is.”
While they’ve never been close friends, Jake admits he’s idolized Chris’ singing for years now. Chris sang all the demo tapes of the songs he wrote that were later recorded by the likes of Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney, Thomas Rhett and, of course, Jake.
“It’s like Vince Gill’s guitar tone,” Jake says of Chris’ voice. “It’s something that always sticks out in your mind.”
As someone who’s racked up multiple No. 1 hits over the years, Jake understands how busy Chris is these days.
Says Jake, “I know at a time right now where he’s getting drug around in a million different directions, and everyone and their brother is trying to use him on their album and knowing he didn’t have to on mine is very cool of him to do that. I’m just very thankful for it.”
“If He Ain’t Gonna Love You” is included on Jake’s new album, “American Love,” due out July 29. The lead single from that project, “American Country Love Song,” is already a huge hit.
