From Sept. 15 – 19, Nashville will play host to AmericanaFest, easily one of the biggest music events the city hosts each year. The festival is a week long presentation of the best talent in the Americana genre and includes daily panels, nightly shows at a variety of different venues, and a huge concert at Nashville’s new Ascend Amphitheater. The line-up is superb, with artists ranging across all facets and locations, even coming as far as Australia to perform for industry veterans and fans alike.
With so many shows to choose from, it’s likely hard for fans to decide who they should put on their schedules, so we thought we’d help you out!
Here are three artists that you MUST SEE during the week long excitement.
On top of being a member of the Pistol Annies (alongside country favorites Miranda Lambert and Ashley Monroe), Presley has made a name for herself with her authentic, deeply honest songwriting – a result of her upbringing in the small town Beauty, Kentucky as a coal miner’s daughter. Her debut album, “American Middle Class” received praise from publications like “Rolling Stone” and “Billboard Magazine,” and has been the topic of much discussion in Americana circles. She’ll take the stage on Saturday, September 19th during the Musician’s Corner showcase.
Randy Rogers & Wade Bowen
The combination of Rogers and Bowen has created a buzz that’s impossible to ignore. Artists like Charlie Worsham have sung the praises of this dynamic duo’s duet album “Hold My Beer: Volume 1,” which brings together two of Americana’s best artists for a mix of party anthems, love songs, and a whole lot of pedal steel. If you’re a fan, chances are you’ve seen them on their “Hold My Beer and Watch This” tour over the years, but AmericanaFest is giving you another chance! On Thursday, September 17th, they’ll perform songs off their album at The Cannery beginning at 11PM.
Ry Cooder, Sharon White & Ricky Skaggs
AmericanaFest promises to bring out the best in the genre, and they didn’t fail us when they put guitarist Ry Cooder, country music songwriter Sharon White, and country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs on the stage together. The Trio have been hard at work on the Cooder-White-Skaggs tour, bringing their collection of bluegrass, gospel and blues to audiences across the country. It’s no surprise they’d get the band together for such a huge showcase. You can catch these three incredible talents on Thursday, September 17th at 3rd & Lindsley. It’s a show you don’t want to miss!
