Blake Shelton thinks it’s time for everyone to take Miley Cyrus seriously.
She’s going to be sitting beside him as a fellow judge on NBC’s “The Voice” this fall, and Blake knows a lot of people are turned off by Miley’s outrageous outfits and actions.
In an interview with Chelsea Handler on her Netflix show, “Chelsea,” Blake admits, “I feel like her antics sometimes keep people from realizing — just focusing on what an incredible singer she is.”
Chelsea then points out that Miley is a pop star and attracting attention is part of the game.
Blake adds, “I know that’s what she wants. She wants to bedazzle and all that stuff.”
Still, Blake can’t help but think about working with Miley to mentor contestants on “The Voice” not that long ago.
He says, “When we worked together on ‘The Voice’ last year — whatever fuckin’ season that was, it just never stops — a couple of times we were working with artists on the show, and she was like, ‘No, no, no, I think you should sing it like this.’ It was like, ‘Wow!’ When she just sings, you don’t realize until those moments. It’s like, ‘Oh, my God!’ She can do anything.”
With all that said, Blake looks forward to getting to know Miley better as they work alongside each other on “The Voice.”
“I like Miley,” he says. “I don’t know her that well. I’m friends with her dad [Billy Ray Cyrus]. I don’t know him all the well, either.”
The new season of NBC’s “The Voice” premieres this September.
