Blake Shelton will appear on his 14th season as a coach when NBC’s “The Voice” returns on Feb. 26. And even though he’s turned his red chair around countless times, the job never gets old.

You see, the Oklahoma-born star enjoys his on-screen role, because he can relate to the competitors on the show, as he once struggled as an artist in the music industry himself. Not only that, but Blake also credits music for saving his life.

“Music has been a gift on a lot of different levels for me, whether it was singing, songwriting, the instruments [or the] producers, I was just fascinated with music. It truly did, I think, at some points in my life it saved my life,” Blake told ET Canada. “What makes ‘The Voice’ so special is we actually take time to work with these artists and try to affect change in their ability to be a performer.”

Aside from guiding contestants in the right direction, “The Voice” is also about the competition among the four coaches, and God knows that Blake loves to show off his competitive side. In fact, he will be watching out for incoming coaches Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson when season 14 begins.

“I like to refer to Alicia as silent but deadly. You don’t realize that because she’s kind of a soft spoken,” the six-time winning coach explained of the Grammy-winning artist, who will mark her third season as a judge. “She’s an artist whisperer, that’s what she is. Before you realize it she has said something that could possibly have changed this person’s life.”

As for first time coach Kelly, he said, “I’ve known Kelly for about 10 years now. We’ve been great friends. Such great friends that she ended up marrying my manager. She is not fun to be in competition with, I can tell you that. It doesn’t make it easier to be Kelly’s friend going into this thing in a competitive nature. She’ll definitely go for the throat.”

Last season, Blake won the show with rocker chick Chloe Kohanski, and it’s quite possible that he could continue his winning streak. However, Alicia triumphed during season 12 with soul singer Chris Blue, so she could emerge victorious. Or perhaps newbie Kelly will surprise with a debut season win. Or maybe Blake’s fellow veteran and pal Adam Levine will take the crown. Whatever the case, we can’t wait to see what happens when the show returns!
