When rumors swirled back in October 2015 that Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani were hooking up, the thought of them being in a relationship together seemed rather unusual — even for Blake.
But the country crooner is confident that a higher power had a hand in bringing them together.
“It’s not something that anybody could have seen coming besides God I guess, because it doesn’t look like it would make sense,” Blake tells CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown host, Katie Cook. “All I can tell you is it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us, and where we’re at in our lives.”
The spark that ignited between them in November proved that timing was on their side as both of them were going through painful divorces. Gwen called it off with Bush singer Gavin Rossdale in August, while Blake called it quits with Miranda Lambert in July.
“I tell people all the time, ‘Gwen saved my life last year’,” says Blake, “and I think she would probably tell you something similar about me.”
Oddly enough, it took some time for both stars to realize that what was meant to be had been staring them right in the face.

“The first season that Gwen was on the show, I didn’t ever really get to know her,” Blake says about their stint together on “The Voice.” “Even coming into [her] second season I didn’t even really know her that well… All of a sudden this thing just happened.”
Blake’s new album, “If I’m Honest,” which features the power couple’s duet “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” hits shelves Friday, May 20.
