Blake Shelton has done just about everything there is to do in the entertainment world, so it’s surprising to hear him talk about a new venture — writing songs for movies.

Blake is the voice of “Earl” the pig in “The Angry Birds Movie,” coming out May 20. As part of the project, Blake took on the task of writing an original song to go along with a specific scene in the film. He admits the task intimidated him.

He told the film’s producers, “I’ve never done anything like this before, but I’d like to at least try to take a crack at it.”

That’s when Blake teamed up with his friend and songwriter, Jessi Alexander, to write “Friendship,” which earned rave reviews from the filmmakers and is now part of the movie.

Getting that right was a big deal for Blake. He says, “I still can’t believe we did it. I still can’t believe we were able to figure out a way to make all of that work, and I give most of the credit to [Jessi]. It was definitely one of those things where, when we finished the song, we sat back and listened to it, and we were like, ‘Is this as good as I think it is? I think this is good! Oh, my gosh. I think we did it right!'”

In addition to Blake, “The Angry Birds Movie” cast includes “Saturday Night Live” superstars Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader and Kate McKinnon.
