In recent years, Blake Shelton has done just about everything. He has gotten married and divorced, then started dating again. He has won awards, cut his hair and watched as nearly every one of his singles climbed to the No. 1 spot on the country music charts.
Yet, Shelton has never won a People’s Choice Award — until now.
Beating out fellow male nominees Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban and Luke Bryan, Shelton took home his first People’s Choice Award on Jan. 6 for “Favorite Male Country Artist.”
“I’m telling you I’m completely shocked and blown away and so happy and honored – and for one reason, and that’s because I know this is 100 percent fan-voted and there’s no politics involved,” Shelton told fans in a special video acceptance. “So thank you so much to the fans. Thanks for taking the time to even vote. I know that’s probably a pain sometimes so I don’t take it for granted and I love y’all very much.”
It’s a surreal beginning to what just might be a fairy tale type of year for Shelton, who is also up for a Grammy Award on Feb. 15 for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Lonely Tonight” with labelmate Ashley Monroe.
