Jonathan Daniels was just a normal 25-year-old riding his motorcycle earlier this year with his buddies when someone pulled out in front of him, and he went flying. His body was thrown in the air and into a utility pole. He suffered spine and rib injuries, collapsed lungs and bleeding on the brain.
“In the hospital it was really bad,” Jonathan said in an interview with WABC-TV. “My mom was telling me I was screaming at the top of my lungs. I don’t remember pretty much a lot of my hospital stay. I was on some pretty heaving medicine.”
Jonathan lived to tell his story, which went viral on Facebook. Yet, the post did not center on his injuries or how close he was to death, but instead, it was about the pain he felt for his girlfriend, Lindsay Baker. A self-proclaimed fan of country star Blake Shelton, Lindsay was forced to miss the Blake Shelton concert due to Jonathan’s accident. And Jonathan wanted to make it up to her.
He wanted to get Blake’s attention. And, he did.
Currently nominated for male artist of the year in the inaugural Rare Country Awards, Blake sent Jonathan a message not only recognizing that the story had reached him, but also that he wanted to do something about it.
“Whatever show you decide to go to I definitely got to meet you,” Blake said. “I’m very sorry about the accident.”
“So this happened today,” Jonathan said in a Dec. 8 Facebook post. “I am beyond grateful to everyone who has helped us share this and get it to Blake!! He is an amazing man with a huge heart! Thank you everyone!!! #teambug”
