Blake Shelton and other country stars react to Don Williams’ death Twitter/@GirRDoneLarry

The country music world is shocked and heartbroken over the unexpected death of Country Music Hall of Fame member Don Williams.

As previously reported, the artist affectionately known as “The Gentle Giant,” died on Sept. 8, at the age of 78.

Stars like Blake Shelton, Ricky Skaggs and Charlie Daniels quickly took social media to share their condolences for Don and his family, with Blake calling it a “terrible day.”

“I was saddened to hear of Don Williams’ passing today,” Ricky tweeted. “His simple music, gentle voice and beautiful songs will live on forever. RIP Gentle Giant.”

“Rest in peace Don Williams You left us a lot great musical memories,” added Charlie, a fellow member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

If that’s not heartbreaking enough, country music got hit with yet another tragedy. Troy Gentry, 50, of the country duo Montgomery Gentry died on the same day as Don. Troy was killed after the helicopter he was riding in crashed at the site of his band’s scheduled concert.

Upon learning the news about both stars, artists turned to Twitter to express their shock and sadness.
