You don’t have to be a pop music fan or even a music fan at all to remember Miley Cyrus’ controversial performance during the 2013 VMA Awards. Apparently, dad Billy Ray Cyrus also remembers it quite clearly, and it sounds like he may have even called his daughter out on her stunt.
To refresh your memory, Miley entered the stage, all tongue and twerking, to sing the anthemic “We Can’t Stop,” surrounded by giant teddy bears. She was then joined by Robin Thicke for his smash, “Blurred Lines,” where she sported a foam finger and the twerking took a decidedly more adult slant.
This year, prior to her appearance on the VMAs, Miley shared a photo of the incident on her Twitter page, apologizing to her famous father and telling him, “I’ll be good tonight I promise …”
The photo accompanying the post shows Miley and Robin in a pretty explicit pose, and photoshopped into the picture is a large, shadowy image of Billy Ray’s face.
Apparently, Billy Ray didn’t see Miley’s tweet prior to heading out for this year’s show, but now that some time has passed, he seems to have a good attitude about the 2013 incident. On the red carpet at Sunday night’s VMAs, “E! Live From the Red Carpet” showed him the tweet.
“No way, no way! Is that my face,” he laughed. “She’s in trouble. That girl’s in trouble.”
As promised, this year’s performance from Miley was decidedly less controversial.
