A romantic Vince Gill and Amy Grant give fans a peek in their Tennessee home for Christmas

There is plenty of red and green in Vince Gill and Amy Grant’s Nashville-area home at Christmastime. There’s also plenty of romance and giggles. But you might expect that if you’ve seen the two together at one of their heartwarming annual holiday concerts. And neither corners the market on the love or laughs. In a Dec. 14  interview with Jenna Bush Hager on “Today,” they show they’re each capable of both.

The couple sat down with Jenna to talk Christmas traditions, including their concerts, which have given many families traditions and memories of their own.

“This is where she really shines,” Vince bragged on his bride of 17 years. “This time of year, these songs, this spirit. The real spirit behind Christmas, she has that over anybody I’ve ever known.” He then joked, “Me, not so much. I’m just happy to stand beside her, play guitar and cheer her on. That’s a good feeling.”

Amy was quick to defend her talented and handsome husband. “When you see somebody doing something they love, you fall in love with them all over again,” she said. “He might joke and say he’s not wild about doing all of the crooner songs, but he kills them. And then he starts playing guitar and everybody levitates. He’s got a rare gift, and I get to stand right next to him and go ‘Well, I’m crazy about you. I would stalk you if I weren’t married to you.’”

Of course this time of year is extra special for Vince and Amy. It isn’t just Christmas, it marks the anniversary of when they met 24 years ago … while filming a Christmas special.

Now, with a blended family that includes five children and a grandson, Christmas is even more magical. “The experience for me is watching your children finally understand what it means to love in that kind of unconditional way that they finally go, ‘Oh, now I see how you feel about us,’” Vince says.

And that’s how Amy replied to Jenna’s question of what Christmas means to her: “Family and showing love.”

Vince, a masterful songwriter, had a little different answer, though. “Christmas means safe. I feel safe … with this child right here,” he said, gesturing toward Amy. “That’s the best feeling of all.”

Who needs a fireplace when you’ve got that kind of warmth, right?
