Rising country music star Ryan Hurd was simply enjoying his weekend and minding his own business on September 23 when a tweet caught his eye that he just had to respond to.
“Why are you glorifying smoking in ‘Love in a Bar,'” a Twitter user asked him. “SO irresponsible! As a mother of teens, I am outraged. Shame on you!”
Take a breath there, mama.
Ryan’s song — which he wrote about meeting his now fiancée Maren Morris for the first time — contains the lyrics, “We found love in a bar in the back of a patio corner / Away from the lights, it was us and Corona / And hearts on fire like the cigarettes you smoke when you drink.”
Apparently, these were the lyrics the Twitter user objected to, which raised some questions for Ryan.
“I’m curious what music you let your kids listen to and why you feel compelled to single me out,” he quickly replied back.
And while Maren has yet to air her thoughts about the exchange, she, too, has been the victim of some recent Twitter hatred as of late. She confronted a user who was ripping into her back on September 17. “Honestly, I’m over the slut-shaming that goes on here,” Maren said in the tweet, after a Twitter troll criticized her clothing choices. “I’m a self-sufficient woman who loves her body. Get over it, thanks.”
Honestly, can’t we all just get along?
