You can have all the talent in the world and the most beautiful family surrounding you – but you can never stop time. And time often means watching the reflection in the mirror get older, your kids get older, and if you are lucky, your parents getting older.
But the impact your parents have on you, well, time can never touch.
“Took the babies to visit my Daddy today,” Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus said in an Instagram post alongside a picture of him, his father Wayne and two kids Madeline and Dylan, who are looking so grown up lately! “They know him as ‘Wayno,’ I know him as the man that ignited a fire in me–the undying love of all things music–that I can’t, and refuse to put out to this day…. when it’s in the very core of your DNA, there is NO escaping it. Thank God! Thanks Dad, I owe you: for a life I never dreamed I’d live…..”
The pic is as sweet as can be, with the foursome sporting some huge smiles at the post-holiday gathering. It was just last month that Jay seemed to hint that things were changing in terms of his dad’s living arrangements.
“This is a bittersweet pic: this is the piano I grew up with, and learned how to play on,” wrote Jay in a Nov. 2 Instagram post alongside a pic of his young son seated at the instrument. “It came to our house yesterday from my dad’s house in Ohio, as he transitions to an extended care facility. I can’t begin to explain the memories I have of him sitting at this, playing for hours, our family huddled around, singing together. This piano has now had three generations of DeMarcus’ sitting at it, and oh the stories it could tell!! I laughed, and shed tears at this piano. It is a remarkable treasure to have in our home.”
Despite the reality of life laying heavy on his heart, Jay looks to have enjoyed an amazing holiday, as evidenced in the number of endearing pics he shared of him and his family throughout the joyous season.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful pieces of video on Jay’s Instagram page was the one he posted on Dec. 3, where he sat down at his beloved piano to do a sweet version of the Chicago classic “Will You Still Love Me?”
Alongside his Rascal Flatts bandmates, Jay has had quite a year professionally speaking, as the country trio not only released their 10th studio album, but they also had back-to-back chart-topping singles, “Yours If You Want It” and “I Like The Sound Of That.”
