Most country stars have started their holiday break, and that means traveling to their hometowns, spending quality time with their families and resting up from a year of touring around the world. And while most people are strapping on their feed sacks for a week or so of turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, pecan pie, eggnog and endless Christmas cookies, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley was thinking he’d go the other direction and get in shape.
He was thinking he would.
Unfortunately, things went south quickly.
Charles shares the bad — and slightly comical — news on his social media, revealing that while at the gym, he suffered an accident. “So, I broke my foot working out a little bit because I’ve got a big arch,” he explains in a video. “It’s fractured in here, so I got a shot.”
OK, so nothing about that is really funny. In fact, it’s a giant ouch! But he goes on to say that as he was getting the shot, he passed out into a wall. Charles’ wife, Cassie, adds, “And he fell face forward and landed on his eye and his lip.”
Sure enough, Charles is already sporting the start of a bona fide ocular shiner and a big, ol’ fat lip.
Seriously, we wouldn’t find this at all funny if he and Cassie didn’t first, and it’s the chain reaction of events that makes it pretty giggle-worthy and definitely merits a southern-style, “Bless your heart!”
Fortunately, Lady Antebellum doesn’t have any dates on the books yet for 2018, but it’s for a darn good reason! The band’s Dave Haywood and his wife Kelli just welcomed their second child, a little girl named Lillie Renee, on Dec. 22, and Hillary Scott and her husband, Chris Tyrrell, are also adding to their family. The couple is expecting twin girls in February and one of our favorite little divas, their four-year-old daughter Eisele Kaye, is waiting at home to be a big sister.
If ever a band could use a break from the road, though, Lady Antebellum is it! They kicked off 2017 by releasing the Top 5 hit “You Look Good” in January and the album that hosted that smash, “Heart Break,” in June. And their “You Look Good World Tour” was, to say the least, ambitious! With artists like Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young joining them, Lady A started in May in Bakersfield, California, and didn’t wrap up their official tour dates until October in Johannesburg, South Africa. The tour also took them to the Netherlands, Scotland, England, Ireland and, of course, our good neighbors in Canada.
When they said world tour, they meant it.
Feel better soon, Charles!
