Country music icon Garth Brooks has a ton of hits, but there’s one song in particular that takes his fan, Dale, to a happier place.
According to WRCB-TV, Dale loves listening to, “The River,” because it helps him deal with the pain of losing his father who passed away back in 1991. That’s why the Mumford, Tennessee native’s been on a hunt all year for Garth concert tickets.
“He was talking about going non-stop when he found out that Garth Brooks was coming!” said Dale’s daughter, Megan Berryman, of the 2016 CMA Entertainer of the Year’s 2017 shows at the FedExForum in Memphis.
Dale had heard that Garth was scheduled to perform back-to-back shows in February. So, he planned on going, but unfortunately had no luck scoring tickets, as they were already sold out.
As it turns out, he doesn’t have to worry about looking for passes anymore, because Megan got him tickets for Christmas! What’s even better is that she filmed her daddy’s reaction when he received the gift!
In this video, Dale is required to solve a stack of riddles before he opens up the present. The brainteaser includes some of Garth’s most notable songs like “Papa Loved Mama” and “Rodeo.” Dale flips through them and reads off the words, “Sometimes you have ‘Friends in Low Places.’ Maybe, like at ‘The River,’ where you and mom can dance….”
Before he’s able to finish reading the sentence, Dale is overcome with emotion. He clears his throat, but he’s still barely able to finish reading off the cards. How sweet!
