The Rare Country Awards honor the year’s best in country music as determined by fans. Cam is nominated for new artist of the year. Cast your vote at RareCountryAwards.com. Winners to be announced Dec. 15.
Whenever Cam performs onstage, she’s normally seen wearing a sunny outfit to complement her bubbly personality.
But, what’s even more charming about her is that she’s able to contrast her light-hearted persona with a dark song.
And, on Saturday, Nov. 12, she did just that with the help of one of country music’s finest songwriters. It was on that night that Cam joined forces with Lori McKenna at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston as part of her first-ever headlining tour, the Burning House Tour.
Aside from crooning a song on Lori’s LP, “The Bird and the Rifle,” called “Old Men, Young Women,” the two did a duet on “Girl Crush.” “Girl Crush,” made famous by country group Little Big Town.
In this video, the two ladies appear to be perched on a pair of barstools. Lori takes the first verse and strums on guitar. Then, Cam takes on the second verse proving to be a natural with her honeyed vocals. The entire crowd then joins in on the final note. And, boy is it beautiful!
“Girl Crush,” co-written by Lori, Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose, won song of the year at the 2015 CMA Awards. This year, Lori took home the same trophy for her heart-warming hit “Humble and Kind” — sung by Tim McGraw. Success or not, though, Lori has already received glowing remarks from Cam. In fact, Cam declared her as “better than Chris Stapleton.”
Now, that’s quite the compliment!
