It’s hard to beat the goose bumps you get when the military color guard presents the flags at any event, but when Kelly Clarkson follows that ceremonial display with our country’s national anthem, the goose bumps get their own set of goose bumps.
When the New York Giants and the New England Patriots faced off in Indianapolis at Super Bowl 46 in 2012, they really had a solid pregame show to follow up. Kelly was in her best voice and gave a flawless performance, and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir supported her with background harmonies so ethereal, it brings tears to your eyes.
And, it would appear that every player on both sides of the field is standing, coaches’ hats off and over their chest in a sign of respect for what the Stars and Stripes stand for. Imagine that.
Kelly looked amazing in a black sheath dress and her chocolate hair cut in face-framing bangs. In fact, we’d bet that salons were jam packed with women ready to refresh their own do in the sweet style.
Although Kelly was the first winner in the “American Idol” franchise, she was the fourth Idol to perform at the Super Bowl. Previously, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks had sang “The Star Spangled Banner” for the pregame tradition.
