We got to know him as a country star, then as a TV personality on 13 seasons of “The Voice.” Now, get ready to see Blake Shelton in a whole new way — as People magazine’s 2017 “Sexiest Man Alive!”
That’s right, the editors of People have now taken notice of what girlfriend Gwen Stefani and countless fans already knew — the tall, dark and handsome (not to mention dimpled) hottie also happens to possess one of our favorite sexy traits, a wicked sense of humor!
In the cover story, Blake joked to People, “Y’all must be running out of people. Like, wow, we’re down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical.”
See what we mean about that sense of humor?
He is the first country star, and only the second person from the world of music to earn the honor. The first was his close friend and fellow “The Voice” coach Adam Levine, who graced the cover in 2013. With the exception of Blake, Adam, 1988 honoree John F. Kennedy Jr. and 2015 honoree David Beckham, and all of the magazine’s picks have been Hollywood actors since the “Sexiest Man Alive” concept was introduced in 1985. Past winners include: George Clooney, Hugh Jackman, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Richard Gere, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Denzel Washington, Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and many others.
While he didn’t previously make the cover, Blake did earn a place on People’s extended list of sexiest men in 2014.
Blake will be on the People cover hitting newsstands on Nov. 14, but the official announcement was made the day before.
In the cover story, Blake says it was Gwen who convinced him to embrace the “Sexiest Man” honor, telling him, “You’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment.” Blake also told the magazine, “I’ve been ugly my whole life. If I can be sexy for a year, I’m taking it.”
As if that wasn’t enough of an honor, Blake is also in the running for Male Artist of the Year, Fan Moment of the Year and Grand Ole Opry Moment of the Year in the Rare Country Awards, and it’s up to you to decide the winners. Will Blake retain the title you gave him in 2016 as Rare Country’s Male Artist of the Year? Cast your votes at RareCountryAwards.com through Dec. 13. Winners will be revealed during a livestreamed concert event on Dec. 14 in Nashville.
