We aren’t experts, but in the off-season, we imagine athletes spend the weekends just enjoying time away from the ball field, arena, gym, bucking chutes or race track, taking the time off they need to mentally prepare for the next season of competition.
But what if their game or race days are over permanently? Do they immerse themselves in memories and nostalgia? Do they stay game ready? Or do they just have brunch?
For Dale Earnhardt Jr., it’s the latter. At least recently.
With wife Amy feeling the early strains of her burgeoning pregnancy, apparently Junior decided to indulge his sweet bride with a Saturday filled with the things that she and most all women enjoy: brunch and pedicures. And, being the great guy he is, he took us along on social media.
It began with the announcement of brunch.
Apparently, brunch went well with the addition of a morning beer, which the NASCAR great must not have been used to.
And then … the pedicure.
While Dale did admit that the process brought out his ticklish side, it wasn’t until Amy shared video that we saw exactly how much it got to the athlete.
The Saturday then turned decidedly more in his favor with a declaration of, “Not a terrible experience at all. Real ticklish. Time to turn on 🏈 and make terrible nutritional decisions the rest of the day.”
And as far as those terrible nutritional decisions go, it looks like he and Amy proved to be real overachievers. Junior enjoyed a signature bucket of beer and his bride enjoyed a full bowl of creamy, delicious ice cream goodness. And we’ll bet that neither shared with the other.
Of course, Dale’s weekends at the track are far from over. He will be returning to the asphalt when the season kicks off Feb. 11 in Daytona, but as all NASCAR fans know, he won’t be behind the wheel. Instead, he’ll be sharing his commentary and blow-by-blow as part of the “NASCAR on NBC” announcing team.
Dale and Amy’s first baby, a little girl, is due on May 2, right between the first Talladega and Dover races of the season. If she arrives on time, the North Carolina native won’t have to miss calling a single lap. However, for a man that is willing to enjoy pancakes and pedicures with his beloved bride, we expect that he might want to take a little time off to enjoy his new little nugget after her arrival.
Either way, we congratulate Junior on his very first pedicure as well as discovering the beauty of beer before noon. (Well done, Amy.) And we look forward to meeting Baby Earnhardt in just a few months.
