NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. has been on quite a tear on the track this year. But off the track, he’s been going through his share of challenges, including the recurrence of his longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex’ cancer.

But on August 6, everything seemed to align once again. Not only did Martin come home with the win at Watkins Glen International speedway, but Sherry was able to be there to enjoy the moment right along with him.

“My good luck charm is back,” Martin said in victory lane after sharing an embrace with his love.

“It was awesome,” Sherry added. “It’s my first race back and its real cool. We’ve had a rough couple weeks, so this is pretty awesome.”

Indeed, the team has had more than Sherry’s cancer treatments on its collective mind. Crew chief Cole Pearn recently lost his best friend, Jacob Damen, who contracted a bacterial infection and died just one day later.

Jacob was only 35 years old.

But as with life, Martin, Sherry and the entire team chose to look at the bright side.

“Life couldn’t get any better right now.” Sherry tweeted out after the celebration. “Thank you Lord.”
