As he prepares to soon welcome his baby boy into the world, country music star Brantley Gilbert is doing what many expectant fathers do and reading up as much as possible.

“I don’t have any idea what to expect,” Brantley told Rare Country from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 23. “[Wife Amber] has been reading some of the what to expect books and I’ve been reading a little bit online, but everybody I talk to says you can prepare all you want but it won’t prepare you, and I don’t want to be too pre-programmed in my mind because then I think I will miss just being a dad.”

But it’s what he plans to do in the delivery room that just might shock his fans.

“I keep telling [Amber] I’m going to bite it off,” Brantley says with a laugh when the cutting of the umbilical cord comes up in conversation. “I’ll definitely cut the cord. But yeah, in the delivery room, I’m going to want to go in there and get [the baby.] I will be as involved as she wants me to be.”

There may, however, be one little issue. “My dad did pass out in the delivery room, so if that’s hereditary or genetic, we may be in trouble and I will be on the floor and they will have nurses on me too,” he said.
