Over the past few months, we’ve loved getting to know country newcomer Russell Dickerson and his wife, Kailey, at first through their very sexy video for his No. 1 hit, “Yours,” and then in interviews. That’s Kailey co-starring in the clip with Russell.
The Dickersons have also shared a bit of their lives on social media, and we couldn’t help but notice how much fun these two have together.
That’s why we wanted to see how they did taking on our Rare Country Song Roulette Challenge.
Here’s how it works: We wrote several song titles, including some of Russell’s own tracks, on a spinning prize wheel. Kailey spun the wheel, and the never shy Russell agreed just sing whatever song popped up. They were definitely up for the challenge!
The first song they spun was Josh Turner’s “Long Black Train,” which has a very special meaning for Russell. You see, Russell is one of the rare country stars who actually grew up in Nashville. His father served as the choir director at a church near the college Josh Turner attended, Belmont University.
Russell told us, “[Josh] sang in my dad’s choir. I got to her his Belmont demo of that song. It’s crazy.”
Also, who knew Russell could sing that low? He jokes that he’s kept that under wraps so as not to steal Josh’s thunder.
“That’s kind of his thing,” Russell added with a smile. “I don’t want to step on toes.”
Kailey then spun the wheel once again, and explained she was happy to leave the singing to Russell.
“I’ll just be Vanna White,” she said.
But Kailey couldn’t hold back when the wheel landed on Russell’s love song to her, “Yours.” We all just burst into song, and Russell made the moment extra-special by cupping Kailey’s face with his hand and singing the song right to her.
It was intense!
The fun continued as the wheel landed on Russell’s brand-new single, “Blue Tacoma.” From the way we all just burst into song again, we’ve got a feeling this one is gonna be another big smash for Russell. If you’ve been to one of his shows, you know the audience is already singing along at that level on “Blue Tacoma.”
For our final song, the wheel landed on Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic,” and you gotta check out Russell’s sweet high notes on the end of the song. There’s even more of that vocal talent to discover on Russell’s debut album, “Yours.”
The entire project serves as a love letter to Kailey, and you can see from this video, as well as their social posts, just how deeply these two are in love with each other.
Check out this tribute Russell wrote to Kailey on Instagram to celebrate the five-year anniversary of their engagement.
He says, “Thank you Jesus she said yes!!!! I’ve leaned how to lead, provide, step up and be a man, be patient, be selfless, and in all of that be a husband. I love you more and more every day @kaileydickerson and every day after that it will still be true.”
