Rising country star Morgan Wallen is making quite a splash with his debut hit, “Up Down,” featuring Florida Georgia Line, and he’s lined up a slot on Luke Bryan’s “What Makes You Country” stadium shows this summer.
Life seems to be lining up pretty sweetly for Morgan in 2018, and he revealed the secret to all this success in an Instagram post on Jan. 2.

2017 was a year full blessings. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d get to tour the country with some of the people I look up to most, make music with those same people, and most importantly get to share all of that with y’all. I have high hopes for 2018 for all of us. The word I’m gonna be focusing on is “Favor”. I believe you will be more likely to receive this the harder you work, and the more right you do by people. So let’s work hard, be kind, and be favored.Advertisement

As you can see from the photos in the post, Morgan’s highly blessed 2017 included him making his Grand Ole Opry debut in July. Rare Country caught up with Morgan a few weeks back and asked him how that word, “favor,” tied in with making his debut on the Opry stage.
“That actually may be where it came from, because my mamaw [grandmother] was there [with me at the Opry], also,” Morgan tells us. “You play the Grand Ole Opry, and your mamaw’s like, ‘Yeah, you made it, boy!’ It’s just really cool to see how they treated her, and just the fact that she was just so out-of-this-world happy. She said something about ‘favor’ that night, and I guess it just stuck with me.”
In a way, Morgan’s journey to country stardom is giving a big dose of inspiration to everyone back in his small East Tennessee hometown.
Morgan says, “I was born in Sneedville, Tennessee, and most people — if they do get out of there — it’s just to survive, you know. So, for me to be doing and living out a dream of mine, I think it’s something a lot of people, not just my family from over there, are very proud of. It’s cool to see. I have a lot of support from over there still.”
No matter what new milestones Morgan reaches in 2018, it probably won’t compare to seeing the big smile on his mamaw’s face watching him sing his songs at the Grand Ole Opry.
“Obviously, the support from my family means more than any of it,” says Morgan. “They’re all insanely supportive of me.”
In addition to his own hit, “Up Down,” Morgan is also a co-writer on Jason Aldean’s brand-new single, “You Make It Easy.” Big things are in store for this guy!
