Two of our first-time Rare Country Awards nominees have been on tour together for the past few months, and they’ve been delivering a stunning cover of the classic Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss duet, “Whiskey Lullaby,” at every show.
Carly Pearce joined her longtime friend Brett Young on the road for his “Caliville Tour” this fall, and their duet during his set has been electrifying audiences. The idea to team up for the song was Brett’s idea.
Carly tells Rare Country, “He literally came to me and he was like, ‘We have to sing together,’ ’cause we always have. He goes, ‘What about “Whiskey Lullaby?” I know you love Alison.’ I was like, ‘Done.’ We didn’t even think about another song.”
Carly is a huge fan of Alison Krauss, as you could probably tell from her understated debut hit, “Every Little Thing.”
“I found Alison Krauss when I was about 10 or 11 [years old] and fell in love with her,” Carly says. “It was over at that point.”
When forming her own musical style and crafting “Every Little Thing,” Carly drew inspiration from singers like Alison as well as a few other female heroes.
She says, “I think people like Alison and Trisha Yearwood and Faith Hill, their voice carries and their voices are so unique, and the tone is so special and what they do with their voices is so special. I think that I wanted it to be about my voice and about that haunting melody and about the dobro, the way that Alison Krauss’s music is about her dobro player.”
The tour with Brett is just the tip of the iceberg for Carly. She’s headed out on tour with Brett Eldredge, Blake Shelton and Thomas Rhett in 2018, and you can bet she’s already thinking about possible duets to sing with her new tour mates.
“You know I’m gonna try to sing ‘Lonely Tonight’ with Blake,” Carly says. “And maybe, Thomas has got some duets with some girls. Come on!”
Carly is following up “Every Little Thing” with the uptempo track “Hide the Wine,” and she is excited to deliver it to the fans on these high-profile tours coming up in 2018.
She says of her stacked tour schedule, “Honestly, it is a dream come true. I look up to them all so much, and just to be able to go out every night and learn from them and also just — they feel good enough about my music and who I am and what I represent to let me come on tour with them. That’s special.”
Carly’s performance of “Every Little Thing” is up for Grand Ole Opry Moment of the Year at the Rare Country Awards. Brett Young is nominated for New Artist of the Year. Fan voting is going on now through Dec. 13 at RareCountryAwards.com. Tune in to the Rare Country Awards livestreamed concert event coming up Dec. 14 to see who wins the trophies. Kane Brown, LANCO and RaeLynn are lined up to perform on the show.
