Country fans just about lost their minds when Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town announced plans for their co-headlining “The Bandwagon Tour” coming up this summer. But we doubt any of them could top the excitement the members of Little Big Town felt about this trek with one of their all-time favorites, “Miranda Freakin’ Lambert!”
We caught up with Little Big Town at the Grammy nominees party in Nashville Jan. 11, where they were celebrating their Best Country Album nod for “The Breaker.” The conversation quickly turned to the tour with Miranda, with LBT’s Phillip Sweet telling Rare Country, “It’s finally happening!”
You’ll recall that Little Big Town and Miranda Lambert lit up the CMA Awards a few years back with this collaboration on “Smokin’ and Drinkin’.”
Miranda also showed just how big a Little Big Town fan she is by covering their monster hit, “Girl Crush,” during a few of her shows.
That admiration is definitely mutual on Little Big Town’s side.
Karen Fairchild tells us, “All I can say, musically, is that we need her. We need Miranda [in country music]. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if we heard her more, even, on the radio right now. She loves songs, and she loves country music. That’s all. Her life revolves around that. She’s very inspiring.”
On top of her musical chops, Miranda is just a blast to hang out with backstage after the show.
“We’ve been friends forever,” Karen adds. “We’re just so happy.”
LBT’s Jimi Westbrook says of the upcoming tour, “This is gonna be fun. I’m really excited.”
What’s even more exciting about “The Bandwagon Tour” is we know Little Big Town and Miranda will be cooking up some new collaborations and, hopefully, writing some new songs together. Miranda and LBT hit the road starting July 12 in Charlotte, North Carolina, with just 13 total shows announced before they wrap things up on Aug. 24 in Clarkston, Michigan. Check out the full list of tour dates here.
Before she heads out on “The Bandwagon Tour,” Miranda is playing a full slate of shows on her “Livin’ Like Hippies Tour.” She’s been posting photos and videos from tour rehearsals, and it’s clear Miranda is itching to get back onstage.
As for LBT, they’ll kick off “The Breakers Tour” early next month with special guests Kacey Musgraves and Midland.
Of note, Little Big Town and Miranda Lambert are both nominated for Grammy Awards this year. See if they take home some trophies when “The 60th Annual Grammy Awards” broadcasts live from New York City on CBS Jan. 28.
