Luke Bryan’s nephew finally gave his uncle a compliment on this new song Instagram/@lukebryan

Luke Bryan is breaking some new ground with his latest hit, “Light It Up.” The song is on track hit No. 1 very soon, which is something Luke’s teenage nephew, Til, actually predicted when the country superstar first recorded the song.

Luke tells Rare Country, “When I played it for my nephew, he said it was going to be a No. 1. He never really compliments me on anything, so I figured I’d single it.”

“Light It Up” relates to a younger audience since it’s all about a guy obsessively checking his phone to see if his girlfriend has reached out after a fight. In this day and age, most everyone is obsessively checking their phones, even if they’re not waiting for an urgent text message.

Luke adds, “The kids are constantly on their cell phones. God knows what they’re doing. Snapchatty and Instra-grom — whatever it is. Always taking pictures of themselves.”

In another shot at upping his cool factor with the kids, Luke recruited NBA superstar Jimmy Butler to star in the video for “Light It Up.” It’s not every day you see a pro basketball storyline — or player — in a country music video.

“Maybe there’s never been a country music video with an NBA superstar in it,” Luke says. “So, I don’t know. [We’re] paving new ground, blazing new trails on the country music road.”

Luke also sang “Light It Up” during his recent appearance on the Grand Ole Opry.

That video was just released in anticipation of Luke’s new album, “What Makes You Country,” dropping on Friday, Dec. 8.

Luke has released a few other songs from “What Makes You Country,” including the title track.

“Hooked On It” and “Most People Are Good” are also out there previewing Luke’s new project.

As Luke gears up to release his new album, he’s also counting on you to vote for him at this year’s Rare Country Awards. Luke is up for Tour of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Fan Moment of the Year. Voting is open through Dec. 13 at The winners will be announced at a livestreamed concert event on Dec. 14 headlined by rising country stars (and fellow Rare Country Awards nominees) Kane Brown, LANCO and RaeLynn.
