Life just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter for Kelsea Ballerini. The rising country star is up for Female Vocalist of the Year at this week’s CMA Awards, and she’s slated to perform her latest hit single, “Legends,” on the show with one of the biggest country legends out there, Reba McEntire.
Rare Country caught up with Kelsea just before the Nov. 3 release of her new album, “Unapologetically,” and she couldn’t help but break into a big smile when we brought up the Reba collaboration.
She says, “To be able to sing ‘Legends’ with a legend, I feel like it’s going to change the whole meaning of the song for me. I’m gonna have to go out of my body to do it, because I’m going to be so nervous. I’m excited!”
Kelsea has known Reba in passing for the past few years, but they took their friendship to a new level a few weeks ago. Kelsea posted a photo on Instagram showing her out on the town with Reba. It has been very cool for Kelsea to get to know this woman who basically wrote the playbook on how to be a female superstar in country music.
“The thing I love about Reba is, not only does she just have iconic, classic songs, but she is bold,” Kelsea says. “She’s always been bold, and you can tell she’s a boss lady. She’s hilarious and she’s graceful.”
Look for Kelsea and Reba’s duet on “The 51st Annual CMA Awards” airing Wednesday, Nov. 8 on ABC.
