When you think of country music fairy tales, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s love story is among the first that come to mind.
They first met as rising stars where they were booked to perform on the same “New Faces” show at a Nashville music industry convention in 1994. The meeting was fine, but Tim had a girlfriend at the time and it wasn’t the kickstarter to their happy ending.
That moment came in 1995, when the two were playing a festival together in Wisconsin. Tim remembered it just like it was yesterday during a chat with “Billboard” last fall.
“In 1995, we played at Eau Claire, Wisconsin, at a festival together,” he told the magazine. “At the end of our encore we always did “The Joker” [by the] Steve Miller Band. We did this sort of Electric Slide, everybody across the front of the stage. I was noticing her watching the show off the side of the stage.”
“You were?” Faith asked him with a shy smile.
“Of course I was,” he said with a sheepish grin.
“So I started doing the slide, and I felt someone behind me and I turned around and she was behind me doing the slide with us onstage.”
Even though this encounter in 1995 went so well, it wouldn’t be until 1996 when these two really got to know each other out on the “Spontaneous Combustion Tour.” At the time, they were dating other people. But the heart wants what it wants and you can’t deny chemistry.
Tim told “People” that to him, Faith was “gorgeous,” but “out of his league.”
But once they took care of their personal business, things began to flourish and love truly began to blossom. Even though Tim was all in, Faith admitted that after coming off of a divorce from her first marriage, she was hesitant. But one moment changed her mind: watching Tim with a young fan.
She told “People,” “I saw this incredibly fatherly instinct that he had. He had this real love for children. I thought, ‘That man has got to be the father of my children.’”
And he would be.
The two began dating and were married by the fall of of 1996. And another surprise was in store for the couple: they were going to be parents! As their careers continued to grow, so did their family. The couple has three beautiful daughters together: Gracie (20), Maggie (19) and Audrey (16).
Despite their skyrocketing careers and superstar statuses, Tim and Faith have remained committed to each other and their family first and foremost.
Now that the girls are largely grown up and more independent, the two have been exploring a new musical venture together: a revival of their sellout “Soul2Soul World Tour,” complete with a their first-ever duets album, “The Rest of Our Life,” released last fall.
After 21 years of marriage, these two still melt in each other’s presence. Theirs is a timeless love that will surely stay strong for the rest of their lives. This is why Tim and Faith are the ultimate example of relationship goals.
