Kelsea Ballerini sure made a splash with her first-ever performance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” this week. She performed the title track from her upcoming sophomore album, “Unapologetically,” while standing in front of a ton of balloons, some arranged in the shape of a heart. It was a gorgeous and colorful set, and Kelsea delivered quite the bouncy performance of her new song.
Listening to the lyrics, it’s clear Kelsea wrote “Unapologetically” about her love affair with her fiancé, Australian singer/songwriter Morgan Evans. The two met, fell in love and got engaged all in the space of less than a year, and Kelsea wrote the song as an answer to those who say she rushed into love too quickly.
Hey, when you know, you know!
As for the look of this performance, it’s just another flawless presentation from Kelsea in the visuals department. She put a lot of thought into how she wanted it to look, and you can see that same kind of thought in the album cover image for “Unapologetically.”
Speaking of that cover photo, Kelsea tells Rare Country, “I really overthought all of it. I wanted the album cover to be a picture that you could look at, and if you were listening to a sad song, it would look sad, and if you were listening to a happy song, it would look happy. When you look at it now, you’ll think of that.”
Try it out for yourself. Look at the photo while listening to “Unapologetically,” and then listen to Kelsea’s more reflective track, “High School.”
Pretty trippy, right?
Kelsea’s new album drops Nov. 3.
