We have all marveled at how 2017 produced quite a country music baby boom, but there was also another kind of magical milestone that we celebrated plenty of times last year: Weddings!
There were ore than a dozen beautiful matrimonial occasions in country music in 2017, and the festivities ran the gamut from casual and country to upscale and exotic. Many of our favorites even took place right in Tennessee.
And while we feel pretty sure that most of these newlyweds know each other from performing shows together through the years, it’s likely none of them are as close as Dan + Shay, who each tied the knot with their respective brides, Abby and Hannah, just a few months apart.
The duo’s Dan Smyers married beautiful Abby Law right in Nashville in May, and while the setting was bucolic, the bride was breathtaking in her creamy, strapless lace gown. Then, five months later in October, Shay Mooney and former Miss Arkansas Hannah Billingsley exchanged their vows in their home state of Arkansas. They, too, kept their nuptials intimate and rural, shining the spotlight on Hannah’s beautiful, billowing gown and the couple’s commitment.
This day. This day was a real life fairytale. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every individual who made this happen. @jessicasloane, you are a rockstar! Thomas Rhett’s dad, hit songwriter and ’90s country star Rhett Akins, took a walk down the aisle in September to meet his new bride, Sonya Mansfield. The couple married in rural Tennessee, as did his son (in 2012), who was a member of Rhett’s wedding party.
The Cadillac Three’s Kelby Ray and his bride, Lindsey, were also married in rural Tennessee, but they kept it sweet, simple, and true to who they are with backyard nuptials in April. “Nothin’ to Lose” singer and former “American Idol” contestant Josh Gracin and Katie Weir kept it sweet, simple and secret when they were married in a beautiful ceremony in May right in Nashville.
Kacey Musgraves and fellow artist Ruston Kelly were also married outdoors in Tennessee surrounded by family and friends. And while the setting looked like a woodland fairy tale, it quickly took a backseat to the bride, who was absolutely stunning in a fitted, backless Berta lace gown with long sleeves and a plunging neckline. And Ruston was just as stylish in a green velvet tuxedo jacket.
Tennessee also played host to the wedding of one of the greatest success stories in country music in 2017. “Greatest Love Story” singer Brandon Lancaster of LANCO and his college girlfriend, Tiffany Trotter, celebrated their own love story with a gorgeous wedding and barn reception in September.
Elsewhere in the U.S.A., handsome Sam Hunt and his longtime girlfriend, Hannah Lee Fowler, were married in a private and traditional ceremony back in Sam’s home state of Georgia. Cameras were blocked from the intimate event, but a few photos leaked that showed the bride beaming in her beautiful white gown.
Mickey Guyton and her fiancé, Grant Savoy, were married in an intimate, but traditional, June ceremony in Hawaii with their families watching. Mickey’s gown was beautifully simple, keeping the focus on the couple and the natural beauty that surrounded them on the island.
In other U.S. locations, Frankie Ballard and his boot-designing babe, Christina Murphy, tore it up in Texas for their big day in March, while singer, actress and Broadway star Laura Bell Bundy and TV exec Thom Hinkle exchanged “I dos” in June at a racetrack in California. And there’s no question that dancer, actress and sometime country singer Julianne Hough and hockey player Brooks Laich pulled out all the stops for their elegant affair in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
A couple of country artists turned their weddings into vacations for their guests, like Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans’ nuptials. Country’s newest newlyweds tied the knot at the beginning of December in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Even though the wedding was beach-y, it was still formal, and Kelsea looked like a dream in a frothy Berta gown.
Parmalee’s Barry Knox and his new bride, Kristin Joyner, also chose a sunny location to exchange their October vows—Jamaica! Kristin was picture perfect in a simple, off-the-shoulder gown, while Barry and his attendants embraced the tropical feel with casual slacks and button down shirts.
These are just a few of country music’s memorable weddings from 2017, but our wish for all of the country stars and their new spouses is for a lifetime of bliss, and an abundance of sweet memories.
Of course, we also wouldn’t mind more babies like Shay and Hannah’s sweet Asher James. But, you know, we can wait.
