After many years of grinding away at their craft, everything is suddenly coming together for country music group LANCO.
The five-piece band — made up of members Brandon Lancaster, Chandler Baldwin, Jared Hampton, Tripp Howell and Eric Steedly — is currently enjoying its first top 10 (and still rising) hit with “Greatest Love Story,” and made its Grand Ole Opry debut on Oct. 24. But there was more to come. While at the Opry, the band members were also surprised with news that their smash single had been certified gold, signifying sales of a half million copies.
With all of their recent successes, this breakout band says they’re not worried about feeling the pressure that often comes with success.
“It’s something that we dreamed about for a long time,” the group’s Tripp told Rare Country and other media outlets during a press conference in Nashville on Oct. 25. “With saying that, there’s a lot to do. We’re constantly busy, but there never really was a huge pressure. We just kind of got to play shows, and go out and be a band, and it’s cool that the gold single is kind of catching up to what we’ve been working toward.”
Success seems to follow the group in their personal lives as well. Not only did the band’s keyboardist, Jared, propose to his girlfriend in May, but both Brandon and Chandler recently tied the knot with their respective significant others. Both of the newlyweds now say that “Greatest Love Story” has taken on new meaning for them.
“I spent a long time playing that song not married and not engaged,” Chandler, who wed his ladylove Natalie on New Year’s Eve, explained. “After I proposed and I played that song [at our shows] … that line, ‘I got down on one knee,’ it felt totally different.”
“’Greatest Love Story’ is kind of about that story of that journey of finding love and finding that person,” lead singer Brandon, who penned the song about his relationship with now wife, Tiffany, added. “But now being married, it’s kind of the end of one chapter and the beginning of another from a songwriting perspective.”
In addition to “Greatest Love Story,” the band members have plenty more songs to share with their fans, as they recently wrapped the recording process for their debut album. And they say there will be something for everybody on the eclectic upcoming project.
“This whole album really showcases the realities of life and celebrating them,” Brandon said of the project that was produced by Jay Joyce, who has worked with Little Big Town and Eric Church, among others. “You get to hear not having any money, you get to hear questioning your relationships, you get to hear finding relationships, and the sonic aspect of it matches the lyrics as well.”
Fans can expect LANCO’s debut full-length album in early 2018.
