During “The 51st Annual CMA Awards,” fans were touched by the surprise performance from Montgomery Gentry’s Eddie Montgomery, who shocked just about everyone when he stepped onstage to sing a rousing version of “My Town” alongside Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts as a tribute to his fallen band mate, Troy Gentry. In the crowd stood Troy’s widow, Angie, who couldn’t help but shed tears over the performance.
Troy Gentry died in a helicopter accident back in September.
Yet, even more touching was the story that was happening before the show.
According to “People” magazine, Troy himself had made a very important promise to his daughter, Kaylee, before his death.
He promised to walk her down her first red carpet.
So in his absence, Angie took the reins, joining 15-year-old Kaylee in posing for pictures down the red carpet. They did not give interviews. The two women looked smashing in plum and blue, each holding onto one another in a sign of emotional support.
God knows, Troy had to be proud of his girls, and of his band mate Eddie and country music in general.
They did good.
It was also announced that Montgomery Gentry’s new album, “Here’s To You,” would be released in February 2018. The set was finished shortly before Troy’s death.
