A few weeks before the 51st Annual CMA Awards, a number of collaborations are announced to get fans more and more excited about the big night. One of those collaborations was Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts, a somewhat odd pairing. What would they perform? Why were they performing together?
Well, now we know.
Appearing on the CMA stage with no formal introduction, Rascal Flatts and Dierks Bentley began their performance of Montgomery Gentry’s massive hit “My Town.” And then it hit us all – this was going to be a tribute to Montgomery Gentry and specifically Troy Gentry, who died in a helicopter crash in September.
With Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox wearing Troy’s iconic Batman shirt and Troy’s wife shedding tears in the crowd, they tore into a respectful version of “My Town.”
But just as the crowd stood, they received the biggest shock of the night.
Eddie Montgomery was onstage and ready to sing again. And then the crowd went nuts.
“This is MY town,” Eddie sang to the adoring crowd.
And yes, Eddie, it always will be … forevermore.
