They don’t call George Strait “The King of Country” for nothing, y’all. At 64 years old, nothing is slowing down the man who practically invented the way Wrangler Jeans should be worn.

George has had quite a year in music and other ventures. He dropped a new single earlier in the year called “Goin’ Goin’ Gone,” which is featured on the “Strait Out of the Box: Part 2” box set that fans had been craving. Released on Nov. 18 exclusively through Walmart, the three-disc collection will feature 56 tracks hand-picked by The King himself, including 36 of his hit singles, 26 which are No. 1’s, along with some favorite album sides and a couple of never-before-heard Strait songs.

Rare Country fans especially loved the rollout of videos in support of the new album collection, featuring many great country singers performing some of the superstar’s biggest hits, especially good ole country boys from Texas like Aaron Watson from Amarillo, Randy Rogers from Cleburne, and Cody Johnson from Huntsville.

He’s not officially touring anymore like he used to, but that doesn’t mean George has been sitting at home in San Antonio playing golf either. He just can’t stay away from the stage, and like you, we’re not complaining at all. Like his pals Reba, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, George also headed to Vegas this year for a stint at T-Mobile Arena with his show, “Strait To Vegas.” Country darling and fellow Texan Kacey Musgraves opened for George during the shows.

He graced audiences with his presence at the 15th Annual Americana Awards, where he paid tribute to Americana icon Jim Lauderdale with his Lauderdale-penned hit “The King Of Broken Hearts,” and then joined his buddy Alan Jackson at The 50th Annual CMA Awards for a mashup of Alan’s “Remember When” with his masterful hit “Troubadour.” And on both occasions, of course, the crowd went absolutely wild.

He serenaded former President George W. Bush and his wife at Prairie Chapel Ranch for the couple’s joint birthday — seriously!

Also, did we mention his Tequila venture? George is a brand partner and investor in Codigo 1530 and apparently it’s ridiculously delicious. We’ll take that “strait” up, no chaser, please.

Yet, knowing George, perhaps the biggest moment of 2016 came in the form of a brand-new cowgirl. George and his wife, Norma, welcomed their second grand baby into the Strait kingdom when their son, Bubba, and his wife, Tamara, announced that baby girl Jillian Louise arrived on Sept. 10.

George Strait remained one of country music’s most beloved cowboys in 2016
