The vibrant, upbeat single “The Fighter” from two of country’s best performers — Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood — was one of 2017’s highlight hits! The video earned the pair a CMT Award for collaborative video of the year back in June, and was so popular that a dance-heavy second version was released.

Originally released back in February as the fifth single from Keith’s acclaimed album, “Ripcord,” the song was co-written and co-produced by Keith and busbee. “It was just a very quick, quick song to write, because I literally thought about Nic and I and our relationship in the beginning,” Keith has said of wife Nicole Kidman. “Some of the things we had said [to each other] all went into that song.”

Though the song peaked at No. 2 on “Billboard’s” Hot Country Songs chart, it was also a crossover hit that climbed to No. 13 on “Billboard’s” Adult Contemporary list and also became a hit in Australia, Canada, Belgium and Scotland, marking Keith’s first appearance on the charts in the latter two countries. While Carrie was initially worried about working the recording session into her hectic schedule, she found the time and the rest is history.

“Keith basically sent the song over and said he loved the song and said, ‘I could hear your voice on it and let me know what you think,’” Carrie has said. “I was like, ‘When are we going to do this’ because I was in the middle of a tour. So quickly afterwards I had a day off in St. Louis, and we rented a studio and [Keith] was on Skype and he was giving feedback. It all came together sort of randomly, but it worked.”

It sure did!
